Embarassment
Hope everyone is well. Not enitrely sure what it is I'm going to post this morning but thought that I hadn't for a while so I better post something!
Last week was a funny week....in the middle of a lot of down times there were some that were just hilarious.....basically involving me and a lot of my underwear!!
Firstly I went to work one day last week wearing a pink blouse that I hadn't worn in a while. I'd forgotten that the buttons on this blouse weren't the most secure. Anyway I got into work and in reception we have to clock in on a touch screen with our extension number and pin number. The caretaker of the building was sitting there chatting to me while I was doing this........it was only when I looked down to clock in that I realised that part of my blouse was open and showing my bra! Aaah, embarassment central.....the next question was what to do; to button them infront og him would have been highly embarassing yet doing nothing was very uncomfortable. I managed to bid good morning and make a swift exit and do the buttons of my shirt up as I went up the stairs. Strike 1 of Emma's underwear embarassment.
The second installment of that happened when I was in work on Tuesday. I'd stayed at my Dads the night before and so had my overnight bag woth me. I was just checking that I had a book in there and realised that my knickers had fallen out and were currently sitting on ym desk. I discreetly managed to slip them back into my bag, but not before turning the colour of a tomato!!
That is all on the underwear front but there was one other funny story. My car broke down on Sunday evening while taking Becky Rasdall back to the train station. I rang my housemate to see whether she'd be able to take Becky to the station. I was parked in a lay-by on a dual carriageway/interstate. Much to my dismay I'd forgotten to leave the torch in the car so we couldn't look at the engine and decided that the best option was to call the AA to come and tow me home. While chatting with the call operator she gave me lots of tips as to what to do; put my hazard lights on, leave the car by the passenger door, stand on the grass verge away from the car (in freezing temperatures!) etc. With all this safety advice I didn't think it was the best thing to share that the current idea floating around the car was for my housemate to move her car from behind mine to infront of mine and then attempt a three point turn in the lay-by so she was facing me and we could shine the headlights into the car........only 3 women could come up with that idea!!
Anyway hope they've made you chuckle......signing off now x x

Weekend

Just wanted to post about the weekend.
I was up in Yorkshire in a cottage with Esther, Rachael and Jon. It was a lovely cottage, right by the steam railway in a village called Oakworth near Haworth (Bronte Country).
It was nice to get away from the mundane, day by day life really and it's such a beautifu part of the country. On Saturday we went to Bolton Abbey an absolutely gorgeous place. It was so lovely to go walking there. For once fear didn't get the better of me and I actually crossed the river on the stepping stones that are in the picture on the right, not an easy thing to do when you have short legs like me!!
We also went to some lovely tea rooms for lunch, nothing like homemade chicken soup to warm you after a walk.
I think one of the funniest parts of the evening was the many games of Cranium that we played. I was on a team with Rachael and Esther was with Jon and we both got stuck on the datahead questions for 1/2 an hour.....by this point I think Jon was praying for the second coming!!
On Sunday we went to Abundant life church in Bradford. It was quite interesting to go there and see how their church has worked. God is using them immensely and they have been blessed with such wonderful provision. It's just sometimes diffcult to pickup the complete dimension of a church when you are only there for one service.
Anwyay am back now, it was a nice weekend away.....just need another break to look forward to now!!

Comfort........
I've had a rough week or so due to different things and this morning was a particular low point. I needed some kind of comfort and familiarity. For me, this need takes me to a place called Abakhan fabrics. It is a place that sells material, fabrics, gifts, stencils, cross stitch and so much more.
I love to go there and look at all the Bridal collection in the vain hope that someday it will be me. Walking downstairs of the old mill, on the cobbled floor reminds me so much of my mum; it's wierd but it's often this place that I have my strongest memories of her and not so much home. There is a certain smell in the place due to all the fabrics that has not changed for the 20 years of my life I've been going there.
It's wierd but it's a place I don't really like going with other people. It's my place. I'm not rushed there or mocked for the things I'm looking at and I can be just me.
And so off I toddled this morning just in search of some solitude, thought time and inspiration as well. Can't say that I found the inspiration but I do feel a lot better for having been.
Does this make any sense?!?!? No worries if it doesn't, I just wanted to post:-)

Bubbles

How cool are these. They are just lying on the floor and don't pop until you stand on them or smack them! Esther had some on her head but I didn't manage to get a photo of that!

Something new....
After the decision was made that I was going to go, it wasn't all that bad and in a way was quite liberating...to know that I could spend that amount of time by myself, doing something that goes against our societies rules so much, yet not just survive it, but enjoy it. At least I know now that if there is a film that I really want to see, there is no need to think that I have to miss out on something because no one wants to go. I feel like I discovered something new about myself if that makes any sense!
If you haven't seen the film yet, then I would highly recommend it. I thought it was awesome. Firstly it was great to see that they had kept to the original story in the book. I wanted to go home and read all of the books all over again. Secondly it was so much like the BBC version in 1988, it was great. It made me return to Sunday afternoons in front of the fire, with the light off falling in love with C S Lewis' work. The set was similar, but so much bigger and better, I loved it.
I suppose the thing that I loved the most was the symbolism that Lewis incorporated from the Christian faith. To see the promises that the Queen gave to Edmund, promises that she had no legal right to give, took me back to the story of Adam and Eve and also the temptation of Jesus in the desert. The way in which the devil will twist things and try and promise us things (like he thought he could give Jesus the world if Jesus would bow down and worship him) that he has no legal right or ability to give. Also the way Aslan sacrificed himself -
"It means," said Aslan, "that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of time. But if she could have looked a little further back, into the stillness and the darkness before Time dawned, she would have read there a different incantation. She would have known that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
This is exactly what Christ did for us. To see the symbolism on the screen was awesome and sent goose-bumps all over me. To know that Lewis was trying to convey the central point of the Christian faith in such a great way for all ages was great.
Go and see it if you haven't. It's even worth going by yourself!!

Morning!

I had the little man for a day which was awesome. We had such a great time together and he comandeered my hat by the end of the day and refused to hand it back to me! See the picture to the right!
Apart from that it has been uneventful....oh except for our delightful noisy neighbour, Big Will. I am shattered! He plays his music and TV at 3 O'clock in the morning and I have to go round there to ask him to turn it off. Last night I was so tired and for some reason couldn't get to sleep. I had just managed to nod off at 2:30 after a large Baileys and reading a cookbook!!!, only to be woken up at 3:20 by his blaring TV. Nice-ities have gone out of the window now though and I stormed around in my PJ's, dressing gown and slippers and told him to turn the music down, I nearly swore I was so angry! Esther and I are hoping to deal with it and get it sorted this week.
Hope that everyone is well and getting their sleep, I'm off to bed for a nap now!
Blessings
Ems xx

Nothing I can say really!
Well, aren't they just the cutest! Older brother and little sister. He seems to be doing really well with her actually, don't think that any jealousy is setting in at the moment...am praying against that. Last night when I went to see him, he just kept saying "Knee, Knee, Lowri knee" as he wanted to hold her like everyone else! So cute!!Monday, December 05, 2005
Yeah, I'm an Aunt again!

Mum, Dad and little Lowri....just missing the Little man in this picture!
